The Grinch Stole Christmas In 1957, But Do You Still Remember It? What A Classic!
By Dreamer

Every Who down in Whoville liked Christmas a lot, but the Grinch, who lived just north of Whoville, did not.” You must remember this line from this famous movie, How the Grinch Stole Christmas!
The character known as The Grinch was created by Dr. Seuss. He first appeared in the 1957 story “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” as the main character. He is a green and, well, rather unattractive and messy, hermit who hates the Whos and despises the Christmas season even more. So, he planns to “steal” Christmas by dressing up as Santa Claus and stealing all of the Who’s Christmas gifts. But after seeing the adorable Whos sing, his heart softens and he becomes a nicer guy.
This story was adapted into an animated television show by the same name. The show included a song called “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch” and it became famous instantly. Boris Karloff was the narrator of the show and he was also the voice of the Grinch. His perfect performance proves he was absolutely the best choice as the voice of the character of the Grinch.

“Cuddly as a cactus” and “charming as an eel” are two of my favorite lines from this song that somehow manages to charm us into actually feeling sorry for and liking the Grinch. As I watch him shuffle down the chimney to commit his no-good deeds, I’m taken back to my childhood as I watched this animated film every year while drinking hot cocoa.
