We often take our families for granted. As we gather and reunite for the holidays, we forget that some individuals don’t have loved ones to greet this season.
Even a single absence can be enough to make many realize just how lucky they are to have people to love, regardless of the family squabbles and arguments that may happen around the dinner table.
Some prolonged absences also make us realize what we really have — families with members in the military can vouch for this. When a mom, dad, son, or daughter is away on a mission during the holidays, a reunion doesn’t feel quite as complete without them.
A woman named Terra Casey spent 25 Christmases away from her father. As they live on opposite sides of the country, spending the holidays together isn’t easy, despite the fact that they see one another several times a year.
The last holiday they spent together was when she was 4 years old!
Casey decided to surprise him one year and came up with an elaborate plan to trick him into thinking that this Christmas would be no different.
First, she texted her father a picture of the view from her apartment, making him think that she was still in her city. Then, she hid in a giant box and patiently waited for him to open the present in front of the whole family.
The perplexed dad has no idea that his daughter is hiding inside, but his reaction is absolutely priceless when he sees her face!
