Nolan Ruby was doing his job as a beverage distributor when he showed up to a high school in Sioux Falls, South Dakota to drop off the drinks. As he was stocking the shelves, he saw the American flag out of the corner of his eye and decided to do something with it that’s now gone viral.
Before Nolan worked for Coca-Cola, he honorably served our country in combat as a U.S. Marine. Now retired from the service, he goes about his business doing his delivery job and keeps to himself until someone saw what he quietly did at the school that won’t be soon forgotten now that it’s been widely circulated online for good reason.
The self-proclaimed “Coke Guy” was at the school’s concession stand when he entered the field house and saw our flag that he risked his life defending, wadded up in a ball on the shelf, which didn’t sit well with him. “I noticed our National Colors tossed on a shelf in your field house, and decided to fold and properly place her the best I could,” he wrote in a note that was left with the properly folded flag, according to the viral post.
In a time when our flag is used to burn and abuse to make a flawed point by protesters, “one Marine’s simple actions reinforce Americans’ strong pride and love in country,” Popular Military reported. However, he didn’t leave it at just this simple task, he offered something else to the students to really make his point known.

Nolan knows that the country’s public school system has failed our students in this time-honored tradition of patriotism, having abandoned respect for our flag and replacing it with political correctness. He offered to teach kids proper flag etiquette for free since it’s so important. “If further flag etiquette instruction is required, feel free to contact me. From: the Coke Guy…AKA Combat Marine Veteran who LOVES the American Flag,” he wrote.
What this proud American saw on the shelf was more than just our disrespected flag, it was a reflection of how too many people feel about our country. These behaviors have been accepted as freedom of speech when it’s just spitting on the graves of the brave men and women who paid the ultimate price defending their right to act ignorantly.
