Teacher Has Worn Same Halloween Costume For 18 Years, 1 Student Offended And Now He's Getting Fired

Peter Colino, a teacher at Ingraham High School, has been wearing the same costume to class for Halloween for years, but it sounds like the year 2016 was the final time he’ll adorn it. As KIRO 7 explains, a parent took umbrage with it, and that led to the long-time teacher being placed on administrative leave.
His costume is a tribute to NBA legend Michael Jordan, and features a Bulls jersey, rubber gloves and a mask. Images of the teacher in his costume made the rounds on SnapChat, and a parent ended up complaining to the principal. He quickly apologized and made a point to have a racism discussion with all of his classes, but that wasn’t enough to prevent the school from putting him on paid administrative leave.
"The difficult part for me is I've always done well with trying to bring people together. I teach kids of all backgrounds and I've been respected and liked as a teacher," he says.

Colino, who is white, finds himself smack in the middle of a controversy, and the Seattle Public School system has released a statement on the matter.
"Seattle Public Schools does not tolerate staff behavior that reinforces racial bias or stereotypes. We take this commitment very seriously. While we can't discuss personnel matters, we are investigating and taking appropriate action,” the statement reads in part.
