Father Notices Toddler Still In Burning Home, Then He Yells 8 Surprising Words

After narrowly escaping with several members of his family from a house fire, a New York man had some time to reflect. He soon realized that his 3-year-old son was still inside the burning home, prompting him to yell 8 surprising words.
The incident took place in Buffalo, New York. Demetrius Johnson, 24, was the first to discover the blaze early in the morning. He alerted his three kids — 8-year-old Treasure Brighon, 3-year-old Demetrius Johnson, and 1-year-old Demaris Johnson — and his fiancée, Tempest Thomas, whom he proposed to just days earlier on Valentine’s Day.
Unfortunately, Demetrius’s daughter was badly burned and had to be carried out by her father. Making matters worse, once they were outside they noticed that their 3-year-old was still inside.
According to the man’s brother, William Johnson, Demetrius’s fiancée told him, “Don’t go back in there, it’s too bad,” but that’s when he yelled 8 surprising words. “I’m not going to let my son die,” the noble father declared before breaking a window and making his way back into the residence.

Reports indicate that the father was able to find his son and managed to stash him in a closet before collapsing in the home. Firefighters later located and rescued the hidden tot and also found Johnson’s body. According to NY Daily News, “The younger Demetrius Johnson was taken to local hospital and treated for smoke inhalation. Treasure, who suffered burns on 90% of her body, will be flown to Shriners Hospitals for Children in Cincinnati.”
As one would imagine, the family is heartbroken over the matter, but they admire Demetrius for the lengths he went to save his family. “My brother died a hero, that’s all there was to it,” said William Johnson “He was an angel. He pulled his family out of there, but he couldn’t save himself.”
This is the epitome of a father right here. This man was willing to lay down his life for his children. Although we all hope to never be faced with such a situation, Demetrius can rest in peace knowing that his last mission was a success.
