When it comes to classic television, one of our long-time favorites is The Lawrence Welk Show. The whole family would gather together in front of the television box and tune in to watch the monologues and the musical numbers. Mom and dad would sit on the couch and the kids would be on carpet kicking their legs with their hands under their chins in rapt attention.
If you have ever seen The Lawrence Welk Show, you might remember The Lennon Sisters. In the clip, included below, you’ll watch the three gorgeous women paying homage to The Andrews Sisters’ 1937 hit, “Bei Mir Bist Du Schoen” (“To Me You’re Beautiful”).

While The Andrews Sisters were the ones to make this song famous, it actually was not originally theirs. The song actually dates back to 1932 to a Yiddish comedic musical called “I Would If I Could.” But for The Andrews Sisters, the rendition ended up being their first hit single that earned them a gold record.
The Lennon Sisters took the stage at The Lawrence Welk Show back in 1960 and proceed to wow the audience with their amazing rendition of the memorable tune.
After this great performance, Lawrence Welk kept going until his final episode aired on April 17, 1982. The beloved show shared some of the best old-fashioned, melodic music ever conceived in the 20th century.
As for The Lennon Sisters, the group originally consisted of six singers from a family of 11 siblings!
Since the 2-minute clip was shared on YouTube at the end of last August, it has received more than 66,000 views on the social media site. The group appeared regularly on The Lawrence Welk Show from 1955 to 1968. The sisters, then a quartet, made their debut on the show Christmas Eve 1955.
So how did The Lennon Sisters get to become regulars on The Lawrence Welk Show? Well, the girls actually knew Lawrence Welk’s son. Some of the sisters went to high school with Larry Welk who introduced the singing sisters to his father. Lawrence fell in love with their talent and was so impressed, he actually booked them on the program that very week!
Amazingly, the Lennon Sisters are still performing! Back in 1999, the youngest sister replaced the eldest after she retired. The current lineup is now a trio including sisters Mimi, Janet and Kathy.
Back in 2001, The Lennon Sisters were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in Sharon, Pennsylvania.
Here’s what some fans on YouTube felt compelled to share in the comments:
“Just so lovely to listen to !!!” “More than Beautiful” “Beautiful!”

These three ladies create beautiful harmonies and have a wonderful stage presence for such young performers. Maybe it’s because they are sisters, but they have a wonderful flow that would still impress critics like Simon Cowell today.
