Mother Enters Son’s Room, Utterly Horrified By What She Finds

An 11-year-old boy in East Point, Ga., unintentionally ended his short life Saturday morning while imitating a prank “hang-myself” video that was posted on YouTube, according to the child’s mother.
WSB-TV reported that Cantenecia Stokes told Channel 2 she found her son dangling from a rope inside a closet in his bedroom. “I lost my baby because of something he didn’t know really completely about,” she said. Her three younger children had watched in horror as the boy attached the rope to his neck and died.
The mother was in the kitchen, cooking breakfast for the family. When she heard the kids yelling, she raced into the bedroom and discovered that her oldest son was not breathing. She freed him from the rope and called for an ambulance. “I got a breath and that was it, and I panicked because I still wasn’t getting a response,” Stokes recalled. The boy died four days later at a hospital.
The mother said her child, who enjoyed drawing, listening to music and playing basketball, did not intend to kill himself. “He panicked and he was trying to take himself out and he didn’t know if you pull you’re only worsening; it’s tightening,” she explained.
Stokes said she is no longer permitting her other children to use the Internet without supervision. “It’s gotten to the point where it’s taking away our kids,” she told Channel 2. “I just don’t want nobody else to have to suffer what I went through.”
The family has established a page on GoFundMe to cover the boy’s funeral costs.
