Woman Seated By Middle Easterners Gets Sick Surprise When Boarding Plane
By Dreamer

A California woman was recently beside herself after trying to get on a plane to Texas. It wasn’t so much the Middle Eastern men that she was supposed to be sitting next to her that was her problem but rather the sick surprise they gave her as she boarded the plane.
Mary Campos rides planes quite often and is actually a member of the unofficial million-mile club, but her most recent trip didn’t go like all the others. In fact, you can imagine her surprise to learn that the plane ticket that she had reserved had been given away by United Airlines.
Making matters worse, she only learned the news as she was boarding the flight when she was stopped by the airline official at the door. As it turns out, she was supposed to sit next to two Pakistani men who, as it was explained to her, have cultural beliefs that prevent them from sitting next to or communicating with females.

As one would imagine, Mary was beyond shocked, but the airline told her there really wasn’t anything she could do about it, and she was forced to change seats. Now, I don’t know about you, but if someone has an issue with someone else, shouldn’t it be that person’s responsibility to move?
Come to find out, that’s exactly how Mary feels about it, and rightfully so. “I thought I lived in a culture where women were equal to men,” she later said. Upon arriving home, the irate woman immediately wrote a letter to the company’s CEO who responded by saying they would “look into it.”
Of course, she didn’t hear anything after that, which prompted her to reach out to the news. After a bit of pushing, United Airlines then responded by saying they were “sorry” that Mary “was unhappy with the handling of the seat assignments” but that they have “zero tolerance for discrimination.”
Clearly, that isn’t the case as what happened to Mary was the exact definition of discrimination. You don’t inconvenience someone because of their physical features, and you certainly don’t appease those pointing it out. If those two men had a problem, they should have been moved. If there were no seats and they were still uncomfortable sitting next to Mary, then they should have been told they would have to take another flight.
The fact that anyone thought the best solution would be to move this woman needs to be fired. That being said, Mary states that she’s not at all happy with the company’s response, and personally, I can’t blame her. Although she says that she’s not planning on suing the airline, she adds that nothing is off the table until both she and the female flight attendants who worked that day, who also weren’t allowed to talk to or serve the men, get an apology. You can’t pick and choose who gets to discriminate – it’s never acceptable.
