Man Shocked When He Looks At A Cart He’s Seen This Man Push Daily For Years
By Dreamer

Any day there is sunshine, an elderly Chicago man can be seen pushing an ice cream cart through the rough city streets, and he has done so for many years. Without concern for cold days, he was there with his frozen treat cart which confused one passerby who was shocked at what he saw on closer look.

Last Thursday, Joel Cervantes Macías was passing through the Little Village neighborhood when he saw the cart-pusher only known to him as Mr. Sanchez, who is a staple in the area, never missing a sunny day up and down the sidewalks for the last 20 years. Why a man of his age would be pushing this 50-pound cart from sun up until sun down selling cold treats out of his cart, regardless of the offseason for it, was strange to Joel who couldn’t shake what else he noticed when he stopped his car and got out.
It was toward the end of the day and Sanchez was struggling to push his cart down the street, so Joel stopped to see if he needed any help. The ice cream man hadn’t sold much that day but was determined to keep going. The good Samaritan bought $50 worth of popsicles from his cart to make his effort to work that day worth it to the frail man. Before taking off, he snapped a photo of Sanchez who began to push his cart home. He shared the photo online with a message of respect for this man’s rare work ethic, but something unexpected happened.
Joel found out Mr. Sanchez had planned to slow down his one-man street business so he could finally rest and work a little less. However, his daughter who helped provide for him and his wife suddenly died and he had no choice but to push his cart longer and farther to make ends meet. Without complaining, he put on business clothes daily, taking his job of selling cold treats to kids seriously, and walked the streets through the rough neighborhood. Some days he only made $8, others he earned $80.
According to WGN, Jose Loera saw Joel’s photo of Sanchez and his cart and started a GoFundMe for him to take a couple days off. The goal was to raise $200 for the ice cream man, but in a matter of a few days, donations poured in totaling $200,000 — enough for Sanchez to finally retire after a lifetime of hard work.
“The beautiful thing is nobody knew each other,” Loera said of all of those who donated from around the world. “Everyone did it for the sake of love, and it shows that you don’t see 6,000 people getting together to hurt one another — but 6,000 people getting together to love.”
When presented with the incredible financial gift for his example of what a hard working man looks like who provides what he needs for his family no matter what, Sanchez was moved to tears but would only accept half of it. He decided to give the other $100,000 of the donations to his local church, saying he plans to keep on working but the donations have dramatically changed he and his wife’s lives.
Society could use more people like Sanchez. He takes pride in the job he does, no matter what the work is, and works hard to provide for his family.
