These Elderly Twins Just Turned 100 Years Old Together And How They React Is Absolutely Adorable!

Like most identical twins, Mary Belle Roach and Mae Belle Powell share a special bond. Despite leading separate lives, these two women have been best friends for the last 100 years. The two centenarians were born in 1916 in Kentucky and have lived through many amazing milestones and life events.
Some of the most memorable events in their lives include World War I, World War II, the Great Depression, the Civil Rights Movement, the electing of the first black president, and the Vietnam War.
Listen to what the twins have to say about their memories of American history and their lives together.

The women remember the horrible toll their family took during the Great Depression.
“It was really bad, we had nothing,” Roach told TODAY. “The only monthly expense was home insurance.”
Luckily the twins continued their education at Murray State College which charged just $5 per semester. While at school, the two played pranks using their identical appearance to their advantage.
“She (Mae) can’t hit a ball to save her life,” said Roach. “So I would go to (gym) class for her and she would write my book reports for me.”
After graduation, they got teaching jobs at Symsonia Elementary School.
“You want to know what my salary was?” Powell, the older twin, asked over the phone. “It was $1 a day.”
They would go on to teach in the same school together, across the hall from each other, for the next 42 years.
During World War II, the twins put their teaching jobs on hold in order to help with the war effort. They left everything behind and moved to Detroit together in order to work on an assembly line and support the men who had gone overseas to fight evil.
Roach still recalls first hearing about Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941:
“Everything was real quiet; I remember how sad it was,” she said to Today. And she can’t forget the Sunday after the first atomic bomb was dropped: “You had to wait in a line just to get into church.”
When the Allies won, Roach remembered the celebrations that took place:
“Talk about a celebration!” she said to Today. “Thousands of people dancing, drinking out of the same bottle, you drank and you passed (the bottle) on. I’ll never forget that.”
When things started to settle down, the twins married childhood friends and traveled the world with their husbands. They visited all 50 states and 8 countries. After their husbands passed, the twins moved in together. Now they share a room in case they need each other in the middle of the night.
“If I’m not with her, I worry about her,” Powell said of the change to Love What Matters. “If I’m with her, I don’t worry about her.”
Despite being 100, the sisters are still very active. Every day, they exercise for at least 30 minutes and still cook and clean.
They certainly don’t look like they’re 100! What an amazing accomplishment for these sisters and best friends.
