Little Girl Catches Cop’s Eye, He FREEZES After Seeing What’s In Her Hands

In order to ensure their own safety, police officers are constantly on the lookout for suspicious behavior. However, when one little girl caught the eye of a Mississippi police officer, he was left frozen after he noticed what she held in her hands.
Gulfport, Mississippi police officer Josh McConnell was on a call when he saw a little girl and her mother approaching him. After overhearing the girl’s mother encouraging her to speak to the officer, McConnell turned and asked her, “What can I do for you?” That’s when he froze after he saw what she had in her hands — a teddy bear.
The young girl handed over the stuffed animal and informed McConnell that she was giving him the bear to keep him safe. Obviously touched by the thoughtfulness of the youngster, McConnell posted the encounter on his Facebook page that has since gained a lot of attention.
The post read:
On a call this morning down at Courthouse Pier and this little girl walks up to me. She was about 3/4 holding a teddy bear. I heard her mother tell the little girl to tell me. I turned and asked what I could do for her and she hands me her bear. I tried to give it back but she refused. She looked up at me and said it was to keep me safe. I said thank you while trying to keep my voice from cracking. I put the bear on my passenger seat for her to see. Her mother told me that they have a LEO in the family and she always heard everyone tell him to be safe. What a way to make the day better. I did not get her name but she said they were from Texas.
McConnell was more than touched by the little girl’s gesture. Instead of throwing the stuffed bear into his car and continuing on with his day, he chose to place the bear in his passenger seat and snapped a photo to post to social media, hoping the young girl would eventually see it, with the caption that read, “My new buddy has my six.”
“Just wish I could have spent a little more time to talk with the family and get a picture,” McConnell explained, according to ABC News. “When the call was over, they had already left the area.”
There are many police officers across the nation who are criticized and mistreated on account of the few “bad” eggs in law enforcement. Luckily, there are a few instances where citizens go out of their way to prove their gratitude for what these officers do daily to protect us all. McConnell is truly lucky, as he has been given a partner againstcrime that will protect him throughout his career, along with the memory of the young girl’s kindness.
