Girls Notice Something Strange In River, Shocked When They Saw What It Was

Two girls from Tennessee decided to spend the afternoon canoeing. However, they never could have imagined how their day would go. After they began paddling down the river, it wasn’t long before they noticed something unusual along the water’s edge. Of course, they decided to take a closer look, and that’s when they were left absolutely stunned as they realized what it was that had caught their eye.
An afternoon of canoeing was abruptly halted for a young girl named Brianna and her unnamed friend. As the two girls made their way down the river in their canoe, they suddenly noticed something that appeared a bit odd near the river’s edge. Luckily, the duo decided to take a closer look. Stunned, they realized what it really was that had grabbed their attention — a sick dog trapped in the water.

The dog, who has since been named “Duck,” had been “in the water long enough that algae was growing on her pads and skin…an indication that she had been suffering in the river for days,” according to Examiner. Unfortunately, other people who were adventuring around the river simply left the dog to die, but, thankfully, these young girls stepped in and gave the dog a fighting chance to survive.

After the girls carefully placed Duck in their canoe, they paddled with her for two long hours before they were able to get her transported to the Animal House Veterinary Clinic for emergency care. An exam by the veterinarian determined that Duck was “emaciated, severely dehydrated, suffering from a ruptured tumor, and pyometra (infection of the uterus),” and that “her multitude of maladies left her body in shock.” She should weigh approximately 100 pounds, but she is currently only a mere 67 pounds.

After undergoing surgery, Duck was finally declared stable and resting comfortably. Unfortunately, doctors had discovered that the 6-7-year-old dog has multiple mammary tumors, which will need to be removed when she’s much healthier, but currently, what she needs most is rest.
In addition to all her ailments, once they shaved her hair for surgery, they found maggots embedded in all her wounds – another problem to be overcome. Although her doctors believe she’s not out of the woods, she has made it past her first hurdle of survival, and they are optimistic about her recovery.

There is no doubt that Duck would have died if the two young girls hadn’t intervened. They are literally her angels. It’s a shame that many other people had seen the dog and left her there to die.
I don’t know what kind of world we’re beginning to live in, but when you simply ignore that a living creature is suffering to continue with your own selfish adventures, it is absolutely nauseating. Hopefully, Duck is able to survive and is adopted by someone who can give her the love and attention she deserves.
