The boy behind the register on a busy day at the Burger King wasn’t paying attention to anyone around him other than the man in front of him, who entered the restaurant with a strange request. After a woman overheard what the customer asked the cashier, later identified as Matthew, she was shocked at the employee’s response and let him know it by what she did about it.

According to a social media post by Matthew’s mother, Michelle Resendez, a homeless man came into the fast food joint that day with .50 cents. He asked her son if there was anything on the menu that he could get for this amount since it was all the money he had and he was starving. Matthew reportedly asked the man what he could order if money wasn’t a problem, and the homeless customer said he would get anything on the menu since it would help his hunger pains.
Without further conversation about it, Matthew proceeded to ring up an order for the man of his own choosing that was much more than .50 cents and paid for it himself with his own debit card. When the cashier handed the hungry customer the receipt with his order number on it, he told him to take a seat and relax, that he has him covered and his meal would be out shortly. Not realizing it, a woman in the restaurant saw the entire interaction and wrote the company later, and she also included a very special gift for this kindhearted employee.

Michelle said that this good Samaritan rewarded her son with a generous tip for his thoughtfulness — a $100 bill — along with a letter of praise about him to his employer. The proud mother snapped a photo of her boy with his “tip” to share on Facebook with a message of what happened and to say, “So proud to be his mom and I can pat myself on the back knowing that I’ve played a part in raising this big-hearted young man.”
Matthew doesn’t make a lot of money, but he knows he has more than the man in front of him who was famished and only had .50 cents for food. He could have gotten him a child-sized fry for what was available in the amount he had, but that wouldn’t fill this man’s belly, so he provided him what would. This boy gave the man more than food, he provided him with love in his lonely world that he was likely hungry for above all else. Michelle raised her son right, not only to work for what he wants but to see a need and not hesitate to do something about it.
