A Reporter in Oakland, California received a note from a young mom of four that contained an amazing story. This is an act of kindness that truly went above and beyond. He was so amazed by the story he had to post it on his Facebook page.
Tawny has four beautiful daughters ages nine, five, two, and six months. Unfortunately since her ex left them she’s been having a very difficult time of it. She’s been having a tough time paying bills and her truck is in desperate need of repair. She needed to get groceries so she loaded the kids in the truck and drove to Winn-Dixie. By the time they got out of the store it was dark, and raining.
She quickly discovered that her battery was dead. She checked the connection and that was not the problem. Someone had left a light on and it drained the battery dead. Tawny stated she has no family in the area and didn’t have a phone to use because it had been shut off. A low point in the story involves her asking about twenty people for a jump and she couldn’t find any assistance. No one even gave her any acknowledgement, they just ignored her. She sadly said “it felt like we didn’t even exist.”
The children began to get really uncomfortable and naturally weren’t handling things too well. Tawny tried to be strong but with one rejection after the other she felt like she didn’t know what else she could do. The poor mom just sat there and sobbed with her children. But then it came.
There was a knock on the window, and she looked to see an angel standing there. It was an elderly gentleman (she found out he was 74) and he had chicken fingers and drinks for them. He informed them he had already called a wrecker. Also, his wife was on the way and would drive Tawny and the children home. He went one step further and had her truck repaired as well.
The family that was in such dire straits didn’t even get the opportunity to thank the gentleman properly. The story is not over yet and maybe he’ll be found out and get the recognition he doesn’t want but certainly deserves.
There is one grateful mom in Oakland who has a wonderful story to tell her kids about a man who helped when no one else would. It’s enough to warm the heart on a dark, rainy night.
