Along with serving southern comfort food, the owner of the Auburndale Main Street Diner in Florida dished out more than meals in the middle of controversial cop hate that has riddled the country in the last couple of weeks. Restaurant owner Lisa Hirakis wasn’t shy in letting this group of Auburndale’s finest know exactly how she feels about law enforcement, with what she surprised them with as soon as they walked in, leading one cop to say “we didn’t sign up for this.”
According to WTVT, Hirakis has been deeply disturbed by the on-going attack on cops and wants the officers in her area to know that as for her and her town they support and respect those who wear the badge and want to prove it. The diner is offering free meals for all cops for the month of July and is now even considering extending that generosity throughout August.

More than the delicious free food, officer were shocked at the overwhelming outpouring of support from the diner that started a trend of showing thanks for them throughout the town.
“We didn’t sign up for the job for people to tell us all the time how good we are, how much they appreciate us, but we don’t get that a lot,” said Andy Ray, deputy chief of the Auburndale Police Department. “It’s nice to have the support to validate that people appreciate us. Sometimes we forget that.”

Paying for a meal here and there for a police officer who stops by is certainly commendable, but covering bottomless plates of food for an entire month really speaks volumes for the character of this business owner and what they stand for. The good deed inspired others to show their appreciation in ways accessible to them, and this is a trend that can trump the hate that the Black Lives Matter movement perpetuates with constant protests in the wake of one officer being killed after another.
