Many of us tend to warm up left overs and eat it for the second or even the third time. However there some foods can actually be dangerous to our bodies if reheated and consumed. These 7 foods, for instance, could give you food poisoning—or worse—if reheated or stored improperly.
1. Spinach
You should never warm up already cooked spinach because it can be very unsafe for your overall health. It is recommended to eat spinach right after its preparation. You ask why? Well, spinach contains a high rate of nitrates. The nitrates which give it some goodness don't like being reheated and can have carcinogenic properties. If you've any left over, just ditch it.
2. Celery
Celery is mostly used for soup preparations. This vegetable contains nitrates, same as the spinach, and it goes the same, meaning the nitrates turn into nitrites after being warmed. The nitrate contents of the vegetable can be a problem if you heat it for the second time, as the heat can cause it to turn toxic.
3. Beets
It is a great thing that this healthy vegetable contains nitrates. However, it can be very harmful if you warm it again. Beets should never be re-heated because thus they become destructive for the body. This purple veg is just waiting to give you a tummy ache if reheated, so better to eat it cold when it's been cooked and avoid all risk.
4. Potato
Potatoes have numerous useful properties, which make them great for the overall health, but if potatoes are left to cool at room temperature and then left unrefrigerated, conditions may be right for growth of botulism, and when you reheat and much, you're in big trouble.
5. Eggs
Meals that contain eggs are generally fine to reheat as long as you make sure they're piping hot. But beware boiled or scrambled - reheating those can make you sick.
6. Chicken
If you eat chicken the next day, after being prepared, it can be exceptionally dangerous. You can cause some unnecessary digestive problems. The protein composition in the common dinner staple actually changes when cold, refrigerated chicken is heated for the second time. This can actually cause digestive troubles, so if you'd prefer to reheat your meat, make sure that it's thoroughly cooked; the inside should be piping hot!
7. Mushrooms
It is highly recommended to consume them right after you have prepared them. If you consume mushrooms the next day, at least make sure you eat them cold because of the deterioration of the proteins in them can cause a severe stomach ache.
You must always be careful what kind of leftover foods you heat in the microwave or in the oven to avoid potential health problems.
