Restless Leg Syndrome, or RLS for short, is a neurological disorder that affects many people worldwide. It's symptoms are constant, uncontrolled movement of the legs, especially during sleeping hours, making it impossible to fall asleep. It can also manifest in strong urges to move the legs, rather than an actual movement.

The most obvious sign that you may have RLS is a strong urge to move your legs around, especially when you are trying to fall asleep. These urges are caused by uncomfortable sensations in the legs, which accompany the urge to move them, never going away.

Another sleep disorder, called Periodic Limb Movement Syndrome, is very closely linked to RLS. One of these disorders can lead to the other.

Because RLS stops you from getting enough sleep, it can cause people to be extremely tired during the day. This can lead to a ton of other health problems, such as diabetes.

Moving your feet around rapidly may make the symptoms go away at first, but it's only a quick fix, not a permanent solution. In fact, you may notice that the symptoms come back even stronger than before after you stop moving.

If you think you can simply "sleep it off," think again. Restless Leg Syndrome may actually increase in severity if you try to prolong your normal sleeping duration.
