Heroic Shopkeeper Saves Choking Child With Heimlich Maneuver
By JamieFlower

When emergencies hit, time becomes the most precious thing. Knowing how to react when the unexpected comes knocking is a big deal, but not everyone gets around to learning life-saving stuff like CPR, first aid, or even the Heimlich maneuver. Lucky for a family doing their shopping in Diyarbakir, Turkey, there was this shopkeeper named Yusuf Celik who had it all down pat. See, their 5-year-old was munching on candy, and suddenly, on the sidewalk outside the jewelry store where Yusuf works, things got scary as he started choking.
Thanks to the store's security footage, we get to watch these heart-pounding moments. There's Yusuf, snatching up the little guy and jumping right into action to clear that candy out of his throat. If you check out the extended version of the video, it covers the full 52 seconds that Yusuf used to perform the Heimlich. As a viewer, every one of those seconds seems to stretch forever – imagine how it must've felt for that kid's mom or sibling watching, all anxious and on edge!
At last, the candy flies from the boy’s throat onto the sidewalk, and the relief is palpable. Yusuf can’t resist giving the lucky boy a kiss on the head before sending him on his way.
So scary! Thank goodness this kind stranger knew just what to do. Watch Yusuf in action in the player below, and don’t forget to share.
