Neonatal nurse welcomes a 14-year-old mom of triplets, then adopts her
By Mike-Ross

In Indianapolis, a neonatal nurse named Katrina Mullen exemplified kindness and compassion by opening her home and heart to Shariya Small, a young mother in need. Shariya, facing the challenge of caring for triplets at the age of 14, found solace and support in Katrina. Not only did Katrina guide her through motherhood, but she also prevented her family from being separated by social services.
Shariya asked Katrina for help when she had nowhere else to turn. Katrina said yes without hesitation and ultimately adopted Shariya two years later. Together, they filled a loving home with joy and helped give Shariya’s children a chance for a brighter future.
Shariya went on to graduate high school and hopes to one day become a social worker.
Katrina’s story is a beautiful reminder that sometimes, the stranger you open your home to can become your family. Today, she is not just a nurse and mentor, but a mom to Shariya and grandmother to the triplets.
