‘Unicorn’ kitty: Foster learns their shelter kitten has an extremely rare trait
By timboss

Recently, a shelter found out that a rescued kitten in their care possessed an incredibly rare feature. This stunning "unicorn" kitten has since gained worldwide attention.
As per the Fort Collins Coloradoan, a group of kittens was born in a shed earlier this year and eventually taken in by NoCo Kitties, a foster rescue organization based in Loveland, Colorado.

The kittens’ foster mom Alli Magish soon noticed something unusual about one of the kittens: he was a male calico cat.
Calico cats — cats with tri-colored coats — are almost always female, and males make up just one in 3,000 births.
Male calicos are sometimes called “unicorns” due to their rarity, so the rescue dubbed their unique cat “Unicorn.”

Davida Dupont, the founder of NoCo Kitties, expressed her amazement at the rare and exciting discovery of the “unicorn” kitten. Due to the uniqueness of this feline, the rescue predicts that potential owners may offer a higher adoption fee. Nevertheless, their priority is to find the perfect forever home for the kitten, rather than the one with the highest bid. The rescue shared on Facebook that they had received an inundation of inquiries about the kitten and would not be accepting any more adoption applications.

They are now using the publicity surrounding Unicorn to encourage people to adopt their other cats, and to raise money for a Trap Neuter Release low-cost spay/neuter clinic in the basement of their facility.
It’s always very special to see a male calico cat. Last year the Las Vegas-based Animal Foundation took in a male calico named “Comet,” who soon got adopted.
“Those in veterinary medicine work years or even decades without ever seeing one in person,” the shelter wrote at the time. “Comet is certainly one of the most unique cats we have ever seen at The Animal Foundation.”

This adorable “Unicorn” kitten is capturing hearts all over the world! The shelter is receiving an overwhelming number of adoption requests, but they are committed to finding the best home for this rare gem. Let’s spread the word and help this kitty find the perfect family!
