It was a welfare check that ended up uncovering the remains of a 67-year-old man’s son. According to cops, David McMichael had been keeping his son, Jason's skeletal remains in his 1200 block of South Merrill Street home almost four years after his death in May 2018.
The gruesome discovery was made on Tuesday night after police received a call from a family member living out of town who requested a welfare check on both father and son. When officers arrived at the address, they met David, who was the home's owner. "He was asked by officers on the scene if he knew why they were there," revealed a press release obtained by the Daily Beast.
"Mr. McMichael advised them it was because he had a body in his kitchen," it continued. After this, officers found skeletal remains, which they believe to be Jason's, on the kitchen floor and thus they arrested his father and charged him with abusing a corpse without legal authority. As for the remains, they have been taken to the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas to know the identity of the corpse that has only be identified as male.

They are also trying to determine how the person might have died- whether he was murdered or if he died due to an accident. "Right now, we're waiting on the report to come back from Southwestern Forensics Institute on the autopsy. Police are currently interviewing family members at the moment," noted New Boston police spokeswoman Katie Jimenez according to KTBS.
"We should know hopefully know what happened in the next couple of weeks," added Jimenez. That being said, Fox News reported that the Texarkana Crime Scene unit and New Boston Police were able to determine that the remains did in fact belong to Jason. Authorities are still investigating the matter and have shockingly revealed that there was never a missing person report filed for McMichael’s son. It is believed that no one else lived in the house with McMichael.
"The body was released to Mid-South Transport and taken to the Southwest Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas for Autopsy and further identification," noted the police department in a news release. McMichael is currently being held in the Bowie County jail in Texarkana. "There is a chance he could be bonded out," said Jimenez
