Man sends flowers to his wife every day in the hospital as she battles COVID-19, so she doesn't feel alone
By RoseKiss

A loving husband, who has been married to his wife for almost two decades, wanted nothing more than to be next to his wife as she fights the coronavirus. But since this wasn't possible, he came up with a solution to let his wife know that she wasn't alone and that he was there for her. What did he do? He sent flowers to her every single day as she was in the hospital.
The 44-year-old man, Kay Pelican from Louisiana has helped turn his wife, Chenella's hospital ward into a flower-filled haven with his daily delivery of roses and bouquets as she was being treated at the Lafayette General Medical Center. The moment anyone walks into a room and sees Chenella surrounded by all the bright flowers, they instantly know that there is someone back at home sending all their love to her from afar.

It was on August 5, 2020 when Chenella found out she was positive for the virus and since it meant they would have to stay apart, Kay was determined to show his 44-year-old wife his love and support.
Being away from his wife has been "rough" and Kay told People, "I can't be by her bedside but I gotta let her know in some kind of way that I'm there. Usually when one of us is in the hospital, we sit with each other, so this was the only way I could be there."
With the help of the nurses at the hospital, Chenella knew about the flowers that her husband was sending to her. Although she reportedly could not speak at the time, the nurses helped Kay have FaceTime calls so that he could see his wife. "It's the nurses that do most of it. They let her know that I've sent flowers," Kay added. "She nods her head when they tell her."

Since Kay's story was shared online, he has been getting attention for his heartwarming gesture but he admitted that he was only doing it out of love for his wife. "I'm not doing it daily for show," the loving husband said. "That's the woman that I've been with for 20 years and been married to for 19. I do things like that because we've been together so long and it means so much to her and means so much to me."
Seeing Kay's gesture has also moved the staff at the hospital who have been seeing the differently colored and differently sized bouquets that make their way to Chenella's room.
Michelle Broussard, the ICU manager said, "The nursing staff at Lafayette General Medical Center has loved benefitting from this husband’s sweet gesture. While it always brings a smile to one’s face to see that a patient received flowers from a loved one, it is overwhelming to walk into a room and see this enormous amount of love — in the form of roses."

With the roses having "boosted" the "morale" of the nurses, Michelle added, "Although the pandemic is scary and we are all adjusting to this new normal, there is still plenty of good happening all around us," Broussard adds. "In the midst of uncertainty, love really does prevail. This man’s love for his wife has been so healing to our weary nurses."
The Facebook post that Lafayette General Health shared said, "His positive perspective makes our nurses’ day as much as his wife’s."

The day of September 8, 2020, will mark Kay and Chenella's 19th wedding anniversary and Kay hopes that he can celebrate it with his wife by his side. Hoping that his wife will soon recover, Kay said, "She's doing a whole lot better and progressing really good. I'm just ready to take it easy and kick it with my family and wife."
