Netflix Users Should Beware Of A Sneaky ‘Suspended Account’ Email That’s A Complete Scam

Criminals are getting sneakier by the day. Warnings are being issued about a Netflix phishing scam that prompts users to verify their account details. Don’t bite!
The most recent spate is hitting Australia, with emails that appear to be from Netflix and a message that says, “Your Account Has Been Suspended. We will provide you with all the steps you need to unlock your account. Please follow these instructions after you click on the link below.”
Users who mistakenly click on the link will be redirected to a fake page with the Netflix logo and asked to provide personal financial information. However, there are several signs you can check for to make sure you do not get duped.
Look out for spelling and grammar errors, as well as inconsistencies in capitalization. You should also watch for spacing mistakes, as professional emails sent from legit brands are free of such errors. Delete these suspicious emails immediately!
Here in the U.S., the FTC warned people about this Netflix phishing scam late last year and encourages the public to report these messages after removing them from their inboxes. Besides informing Netflix of the scam, you may also email the FTC at spam@uce.gov and the Anti-Phishing Working Group at reportphishing@apwg.org.
That will inform law enforcement as well as financial institutions of potential risks. If you receive an email like this and are unsure how to identify its legitimacy, contact the business’s customer service line.
