New Facebook Feature Will Allow You To Delete A Message Sent By Mistake Within 10 Mins Of Sending It

Have you ever sent a Facebook message that you really, REALLY regretted sending? Perhaps, you had one too many mimosas last Sunday brunch and decided to angrily write your ex that broke up with you back in high school. Maybe, a lady from your mom’s group is hassling you to purchase her new trendy product du jour, but after hesitantly ordering 5 scented candles, you’ve changed your mind…

Whatever your messaging flub may be, you’ll be happy to know that Facebook’s Messenger app is set to launch a feature that allows you 10 minutes to ‘unsend’ your regretful message.

Where was this feature when we were in college?

Here’s how the social media behemoth describes its newest–and perhaps most useful!–feature:

Coming soon: Remove a message from a chat thread after it’s been sent. If you accidentally send the wrong photo, incorrect information, or message the wrong thread, you can easily correct it by removing the message within 10 minutes of sending it.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, even after making the official announcement, Facebook is already receiving some pushback in regards to the feature. Apparently, astute techie types first noticed that the social media network had the ability to delete messages from its Messenger app back in April when it was revealed that the company had been secretly deleting messages sent by its founder, Mark Zuckerberg. Shady!

Ever since then, the tech-savvy reaches of the Internet have been waiting for Facebook to release this feature because, believe it or not, it is pretty much the last network in line to do so. According to 9TO5Mac, both SnapChat and WhatsApp have launched similar features–except theirs give users a full HOUR to ‘unsend’ the message.

Although Facebook might be late to the party, it’s still good to know that it is getting on this very important bandwagon. Say ‘goodbye’ to those regretted messages!

We’d love to hear your take on this new Facebook feature. Do you plan to use it? Have you ever written a message that you regret sending? If so, what did you do?
