Boy Asked Man Simple Question, But Didn’t Realize Who He Was Talking To

While enjoying his lunch inside a Tim Horton’s fast food restaurant, Mark Hurson overheard a little boy approach an older man with an innocent question. How the bearded guy responded took everyone in the room aback, because of what the child didn’t know about this stranger.

In a post he made on Facebook after the November 16 incident, Mark said that he was at the burger joint eating alone in Ontario, Canada, when he saw a little boy strike up a conversation with a man in line. The innocent child thought he recognized the stranger, and the older gentleman didn’t have the heart to tell him the truth.

In shock and awe, the boy got up the guts to talk to the man who he thought was Santa Claus. He couldn’t muster the courage to utter his words at first, but the man could tell by the boy’s facial expression and his own past experience that the child thought he was Father Christmas. Instead of brushing him off, the kind stranger decided to play along and not shatter this kid’s innocence.

“The older gent looked down and smiled and asked him if he sent his letter into him yet,” Mark explained in his post. “The boy said no and he would be doing it tonight.”

Soaking in all of “Santa’s” glory, the starstruck child didn’t want to step away. The man continued with this incredibly sweet interaction, offering him a word of sound advice.

“He said you better be nice to your mom and sister because I’m watching,” Mark’s post continued. “He then said goodbye and was going back to the North Pole to finish the toys with the elves.”

Mark wasn’t the only one in the room to stop what they were doing and listen to this endearing interaction take place. “Santa’s” sweet conversation did as much, if not more, for the adults in the room, than it did the boy. The posting witness said not an eye in the place was dry, including his own. “There are some great people left in the world,” Mark resolved from what this man did for a kid he didn’t have to connect with, but chose to anyway.

While there is so much anger in every corner of the earth these days, it’s refreshing to get a reprieve from that negativity by taking notice of the small acts of kindness right in front of us. It’s the little things like this that make our lives brighter and restore some faith in humanity. This boy’s sweet demeanor was more than meets the eye — it’s a reminder of innocence that stills lives within each one of us.
