A couple from Florida thought they were going to have the perfect day at the beach as they planned to spend some quality time with each other. Unfortunately, they had no clue about the terror that the day had in store for them. Sadly, as the man decided to go for a swim in the ocean, he got caught up in a dangerous ripride – but before he was killed, he gave 3 final words that none of us will ever forget.
Married couple Kendra Smith and, Sherrod Whittington, married for 2 years, chose to go to Miami to spend some quality time together and enjoy some sun at the beach. As the day was going quite nicely, before they could even realize, things took a disturbing turn.
When they go swimming, Kendra said that she normally sticks to the shoreline with just her feet dipped in the water, however this time was different. According to the wife, her husband wanted her to come out into the deeper parts of the water and spend some time with him, which she obliged.
However, their fun time together would quickly turn to chaos when the two wandered a bit too close to a riptide. Before long, the couple was being swept out to sea by the strong current, and they were doing everything in their power to stay afloat. At one point, the two lost one another, but Sherrod was able to look around, locate, and swim back to his struggling bride, who was just a few feet away.
Although lifeguards would quickly come to the rescue, they could only take one of them back to shore at a time. Sherrod then uttered three heart-wrenching words – “Take her first.” Sadly, by the time lifeguards got back out to the man, he had taken in water and was unconscious.
First responders tried to revive the man, but it was too late. Kendra, though heartbroken, has come forward to say that her husband died a hero. “He did the most amazing thing in the world that he gave his life for me,” she said. “I appreciate that, I really do and I’m going to honor him until the day I die because of that… He’ll always be my hero.”
