Mom Receives Backlash After She Posts Photo Of Her Christmas Tree, Does She Deserve It? (Photo)

A mom from the Isle of Man who purchased almost $2,280 worth of Christmas gifts for her family has gone to social media in order to defend herself after a photo of her purchases spread online.

Emma Tapping, 35, shared a photo of her Christmas tree online, which was overflowing with around 300 gifts for her children, partner, mother and herself. Her picture was reportedly turned into an image with a caption that read: “Nearly time for all the materialistic parents to compete and broadcast how many presents their kids have on Facebook! Just remember theres some children who dont get much.”

Shocked by the negative comments she received, Tapping told the Daily Mail via email that she shops for bargains all year for Christmas.

"It has cost around [$2,280], I don't have a credit card, I follow Martin Lewis the money expert religiously and I do all the sales,” Tapping wrote. “I never pay for anything full price so can give me kids the best Christmas they can have.”

She added that she was taken aback by the judgment displayed towards her. On her Facebook page, Thebossmum, she clarified that the picture was shared without her permission and that she was not a "bragging parent."

“I was shocked how [judgmental] people were," she told the Daily Mail. "My attitude is what I buy my kids is my business, no one else's.”

The mother of three was particularly surprised at the assumptions that strangers made about her children due to the image. Many said that her children would not be appreciative of things in life as a result of getting so many presents.

“The worst comments were for me were about the kids, the lady that stole the picture knew it must of been a kid's Christmas tree, hence 'materialistic parents,' so that was upsetting that people didn't think about that before judging,” Tapping wrote.

Despite the unexpected backlash this image has caused, Tapping has no regrets about indulging her family during the holidays.

“I love the fact I can work hard all year to give my kids and my family this kind of Christmas,” she added. “It is what we have always done and what we will continue to do."
