The Military’s Top Secret To Falling Asleep Has Now Gone Public, My Sleep Struggles Are Over!

Getting a good night’s sleep is challenging for some people, as they may might find their nights are not so restful and they wake up feeling tired. If the perfect night’s sleep eludes you, look no further than a technique that includes a secret U.S. military method that can have you drifting off to sleep in just 120 seconds.
It sounds too good to be true, but it’s definitely worth a try for the sleep deprived or anyone looking for better quality sleep.
The technique is featured in a book titled “Relax and Win: Championship Performance,” which was originally published in 1981 but whose method is gaining attention again.
Soldiers have employed the sleep technique so that they can get adequate rest, with reports of a 96 percent success rate after six weeks of practice. Army bosses reportedly developed the technique so that pilots wouldn’t make mistakes due to tiredness.
So, what’s involved?
The sleep method uses a combination of breathing techniques, visualization and muscle relaxation.
According to the Daily Mail, the sleep technique involves relaxing the muscles of your face, including your tongue, jaw, and the muscles that are around your eyes. The relaxation travels down your body, as you drop your shoulders as low as possible before relaxing your upper and lower arm on one side, then repeating on the other side.
Breathing is the next step, as you should exhale, relaxing your chest as you breathe out.
Next, relax your thighs and move to your lower legs. Once you’ve relaxed the body for ten seconds, it’s time to clear your mind and drift off to sleep.
To clear your mind, the book suggests picturing yourself lying in a canoe on a calm lake, with the blue sky above you or picture yourself snuggled in a black velvet hammock in a pitch-black room.
Another option, surprisingly, is to try saying “don’t think, don’t think, don’t think” over and over again for ten seconds.
Many people weighed in with comments on the Daily Mail’s coverage of the technique, with one person sharing: “Was taught this when I was a youngster at boarding school, only we started from the feet and then worked our way up.”
Another commenter agreed, remarking: “This is a classic relaxation technique and has been know about for years. The full technique is more detailed concentrating on all your muscles from the toes up and finally relaxing the brain. I’m not sure that ‘don’t think’ would work very well. I was taught to use a well known repetitive phrase such as a nursery rhyme. Also, the water scene is frowned upon as some people are scared of water or have bad associations with it.”
One person shared that they’ve tried this technique without success, noting: “I suffer from insomnia so last night tried this technique. I was still awake at 3am… I have learned to not fret about it and read. Some nights I drop off reading, other nights I am awake all night. Luckily am retired so it doesn’t matter but I don’t think this method works.”
Another commenter responded: “You’re meant to practice for six weeks.”
