When two pit bulls got loose, a man in Tennessee was not able to stop them as they viciously mauled his wife to death. In the end, the dogs killed 66-year-old Lorraine Saylor on Christmas Eve. The senior woman suffered more than 20 severe bite wounds, and numerous smaller ones when two pit bulls savagely attacked her on the day before Christmas. Now Saylor’s husband is speaking out against the owner of the dogs, 42-year-old Dale Lankford.
Lankford has a criminal record. And on the day his dogs killed the woman, he was already behind bars in Bell County, Kentucky. He had been arrested on charges of domestic violence from an incident he was involved with back on December 22.
Just two days later, the violent suspect’s two dogs killed his neighbor in one of the most gruesome attacks ever seen in the town.
Now Lankford has been charged with harboring a vicious animal. But locals think prosecutors need to charge him with something harsher given that his dogs killed an innocent old woman.
Protocol prohibits husband John Saylor from speaking directly to Lankford, but he used his interview with the media to relay a message to the brutal man who is currently behind bars.
“I’m sure he will see this. I hope he does,” Saylor said during the interview. “He’s responsible for my wife’s death.”
More exact words have not been spoken involving this case.
Knoxville ABC affiliate WATE reported that Saylor’s wife was attacked when Lankford’s two deadly pit bulls got loose. The senior citizen had been outside feeding her cats, which was part of her morning routine.
And from the comfort of his living room, John Saylor suddenly heard terrified shouts coming from outside. It was the morning of Christmas Eve, and he could not comprehend the terror.
He rushed outside to help his wife. And as he tried to bash the dogs off her, he suffered severe wounds himself. But he was not killed.
Saylor’s hands were mauled as he tried to rescue his wife from the two dogs. The pit bulls also ravaged his head and his arms. And as they continued to attack, he ran inside and grabbed his firearm.
When he got back outside, he shot and killed one of the dogs. But it was too late to save his wife. The dogs had killed her. He could only describe her as a “kind-hearted woman.”
After Saylor killed one of the dogs, the other one fled for its life. But animal control soon captured it and put it out of its misery.
Saylor told the news station that his wife “was weak and about 105 pounds. I said, ‘Oh God! Oh no! Please no!’ I checked her pulse just in case.”
Saylor’s death is the second from a pit bull attack in a week. A 22-year-old Virginia woman was killed on December 14 while she was walking her two pit bulls and they turned on her.
