A 9-year-old boy in Washington is being hailed as a hero after he refused to listen to his mom, which ended up saving her life.
According to 9News, Camdyn Smith has been trying to go above and beyond to help his mom out with his new baby brother.
"I make bottles," said the 9-year-old. "I changed Dylan's diaper once!"
And, when it comes to his mom, Camdyn feels very caring and protective.
That’s why he knew he had to act earlier this month when his mom started experiencing chest pain and difficulties breathing.
"I told her she needed to go to the hospital, but she kept saying she just wanted to stay here," Camdyn said.

Camdyn’s mom, Kimberly Smith, thought she would feel much better if she just rested for a bit, but alarm bells quickly started going off in Camdyn’s head.
"I kept saying that we needed to go. So, I just went and got my shoes and coat on and told her we needed to go," said Camdyn.
The moment Kimberly arrived to see her doctor, they ordered her an ambulance to take her to the hospital.
It was at the ER where doctors discovered that both of Smith’s lungs were full of blood clots—pulmonary embolisms.
For the next seven days, Smith was confined to a hospital bed, lucky to be alive at that point.
According to 9News, doctors immediately explained to Smith that listening to her son’s advice is what saved her life.
"If I had taken the nap, there's a good chance it would've been a very different outcome," she said. "A sad one."
As it turns out, Camdyn learned everything he knows about the warning signs of pulmonary embolisms from his 4th grade PE teacher at Evergreen Elementary.
Timathi Fitzpatrick, his teacher, had suffered one herself and decided to teach the class about the warning signs.
"It's sometimes questionable whether they are paying attention," said Fitzpatrick, "but something stuck with him pretty well!"
"He is definitely my hero," Smith said of her son. "They say your life flashes before your eyes, and it's true. It makes you look at your kids in a whole different way."
Several news outlets shared this amazing story on Facebook, where dozens of commenters praised Camdyn’s courage and bravery in such a difficult situation.
“So glad this turned out well. Smart little boy. My prayers go out to this family for a quick recovery,” one woman commented.
“Everyone should teach their children about health issues. What an awesome little boy and the teacher that taught her students the signs too,” another added.
“This ICU RN sends kudos to the boy (hero). Both children could easily have lost their mom. She was in very real danger,” one commenter wrote.
