Autistic Boy Enters McDonald’s, Sister Can’t Believe What Worker Dared To Do

An autistic boy recently went to McDonald’s with his caregiver to get some food. However, once he made it up to the counter, the employee treated him in such a way that his caregiver immediately went home to tell the boy’s sister. Of course, she was so absolutely stunned over what the worker did that she went in the next day to see him face to face.

Aled Griffith had only been working at McDonald’s for a few short weeks before he met Alex Deyes, a 16-year-old autistic boy. He had come in with his caregiver to order some food, and Aled did something no one in the past had done before. He dared to encourage the boy to order for himself, as well as remain patient enough to allow Alex to count his money and pay on his own.

Of course, Alex’s caregiver immediately went home and explained to his sister, Katie, what the kind employee had done for them. Katie knew she needed to meet this kind person and chose to take her brother in the next day. When Aled continued his kindness towards her brother, she knew she had to post about the incident on Facebook, and it has since gone viral.

“Last night, I took my 16-year-old autistic brother, Alex, to your Mold restaurant chain in North Wales. We were greeted by a lovely young lad who’s name was Aled, who said hello to my brother and explained he had met him the previous evening when one of Alex’s carers took him in for tea,” Katie explained, according to Love What Matters.

She continued to explain that not only did Aled patiently encourage Alex to order his own food and find the right money, he remembered from the day before that he didn’t drink out of the bottle and offered an empty cup without being asked.

“He then came over to our table and offered to swap Alex’s happy meal toy as he had given him the same one the previous evening – my brother loves collecting these toys so getting an extra, new one, was really exciting for him,” she said. “Aled said goodbye to us as we left and left Alex feeling really happy and has asked if we can go back again to sit in and I believe that’s because Aled was so friendly towards him!”

Of course, anyone who knows someone who suffers from autism understands how difficult being in public can sometimes be. “I know Alex, myself and all of his family and carers really appreciated how he was treated and looked after,” she said, extending her thanks to the kind employee. “Aled is a credit to the Mold McDonald’s team (and McDonald’s as a whole) and I felt he deserved a mention and massive thank you.”

When Aled was interviewed about his kind gestures, it became clear that he’s simply a kindhearted individual. “To me, it’s something I would have just done anyway so I’ve been a bit taken aback by all the fuss,” Aled explained, according to Daily Mail. Aled lost his father when he was young and suffered a great deal of bullying because of it. “People thought it was funny and they would make fun of me and I promised myself I would never look down on other people who are disadvantaged through no fault of their own.”

I think it’s safe to say that Aled has lived up to the promise he made himself. I think more people need a lesson on kindness, rather than being selfish as many today tend to be. There’s no reason that a kid who has a disability shouldn’t feel comfortable going into public, especially to a restaurant for kids. Thankfully, there are people like Aled who are willing to make the experience memorable for one person at a time.
