Woman Opens Dad’s Old Garage, Makes Horrible Find & Exposes Secret
By Dreamer

Sheryn Shaw’s parents have lived in the same home in Utah since the 1950’s, which has a detached two-door garage off to the side of it. The garage is old and rundown, and she’s never had a reason to go in there, until last weekend, when she found a note that exposed an ongoing secret.
Deloy Shaw still lives in the home with his wife, and both are in their early 80’s now. Sheryn’s sister had stopped by the house one afternoon and noticed a note, which she snapped a photo of and sent it to her sister, leaving both of them feeling sick.
“At first, I was really mad,” Sheryn told Fox13. “It took me a minute to simmer down.” Some of her parents’ neighbors had become annoyed, looking at Deloy’s garage. They went out of their way to get revenge on him for the neighborhood eyesore, which they assumed he had refused to fix out of laziness.

In bold black marker, the anonymous note demanded that he take care of his rotting doors, then insulted the struggling couple on top of it. “Please paint your garage door! We as neighbors are embarrassed by you!!” While this is a cowardly approach to expressing your issue with a neighbor and rude regardless of who it’s meant for, it’s especially disgusting given what Deloy Shaw has kept secret.

Note neighbor anonymously sent the Shaws
The aging father said that even before receiving the note, he knew his garage was unsightly, which was a bother to him. Desperately wanting to fix it, he got all the things he needed, on several occasions, and went out there to do so, but his bad knees, back, and other debilitating ailments prevented him from getting the job done. Thinking he would soon be able to feel well for the task, he never asked for help, not wanting to put other people out, and he couldn’t afford to hire a handyman.
“I think I can do it, but when I go out to do it, it’s not that easy,” Deloy said. He kept this to himself until his neighbors brought attention to him not fixing it.
Sheryn knows how kind her father is to everyone in the neighborhood and felt devastated that they stabbed him in the back like this. He even admitted that it hurt him to know that his neighbors felt this way about him. She took to social media to express her anger over how these strangers handled an aesthetic issue and her sadness for the community not being what it used to be — a place where people helped each other.

Kind people in the community who fixed Deloy’s doors
With a photo of the note and doors, her post was shared multiple times and sparked something in a few people in her father’s town of Murray. Strangers and friends got together and completely rehabilitated the Shaw’s garage doors over the weekend, with no thanks to anyone in his neighborhood.
The couple and their daughters, who helped, were beyond appreciative for the generous effort, which didn’t just restore the doors, but their faith in humanity as well. If the rude neighbors had thought to do something about this issue other than complaining and being jerks, they could have grabbed some paint and solved it in an afternoon. Some people would rather make someone feel bad, since that’s easier than doing something kind.
