When Baby Dies, Sobbing Mom Returns His Clothes. Seconds Later, Cashier Rushes To Blanket Aisle

In a heartbreaking turn of events for expectant mother Jacinta Masters, one stranger’s kindness provided a desperately needed slice of comfort during a tumultuous time of grief.

Masters, from South Australia, wrote an open letter to the kind stranger — a store clerk named Jo — sharing the story of their emotional and unforgettable encounter.

A heartbroken Masters was on her way to the hospital, to induce her stillborn son. She clutched the tiny baby clothing she had purchased for her newborn, intending to return them before her hospitalization, so she wouldn’t have to bear putting off the painful errand.

At first, the store clerk explained that she couldn’t accept the return because Masters didn’t have the proper bank card to refund the money. An already overwhelmed Masters immediately burst into tears.

“I broke down and explained I didn’t have it, and I was on my way to hospital to be induced to have my baby who had passed away,” Masters wrote, “and I wanted them returned now because I don’t want to see them or deal with them when I get home.”

Immediately stricken with anguish for the heartbroken mother, the store clerk, Jo, took action. She and the store manager set aside the store’s return policy and gave Masters the refund. But Jo wasn’t finished yet.

Later in a Facebook message (that’s since been changed to private) she thanked the store clerk, writing, “You then asked me if I had a blanket to wrap him in. I didn’t. It was one of the things I had to buy that morning. You came and gave me a big hug and let me cry on your shoulder.”

Together, the two women had chosen the perfect baby blanket for Masters’ son, “blue mink with white clouds on it.” Jo paid for the blanket herself, and Masters continued on to the hospital. She sat in the parking lot and wept, clutching the blanket in her arms.

After the traumatic delivery of her stillborn son, Masters wrapped him in the soft blanket and grieved.

“I just want you to know, it brought so much comfort cuddling his blanket through the contractions, and then wrapping him in it when he was born,” Masters bravely shared.

“And I’ll never EVER forget what you did for me and my baby. You truly are an angel and I thank you from the bottom of my heart!!”

While Masters and her family are immersed in grief, they want their heart-wrenching story told, to raise awareness about Infant Loss Remembrance Day, October 15, 2016. Our hearts are with this sweet family during their time of sorrow.
