Nearly one year after a 1-year-old baby was found unresponsive in her parents’ Florida home, an ER doctor has called her death the worst case of starvation he has ever seen.
According to WPEC, 13-month-old Tayla Aleman was found unresponsive in April.
At the time of her horrific death, Tayla weighed just 7 pounds—severely underweight for a child her age.
Tayla’s parents, Alejandro Aleman and Kristen Meyer-Aleman, are both facing serious charges in connection to her death.
"One minute she was fine and suddenly she just stopped breathing, while in her arms and now she is dead." That is exactly what Meyer-Aleman told police the day her baby girl died, according to court records.
In fact, Meyer-Aleman reportedly told authorities that her daughter had been perfectly healthy right before she died.
"She cannot understand what happened because everything occurred so fast," the report indicated.
Although the emergency room doctor who treated Tayla desperately tried to save the baby girl’s life, the physician later said the child's condition was the worst case of starvation he has seen in his practice of medicine.
After the toddler’s death, a medical examiner ruled that she had ultimately succumbed to a lack of food and water.
Disturbingly enough, Tayla weighed two pounds less than her birth weight at the time of her death.
According to the report, the baby girl was so frail and small when she died that she didn’t even look like a 1-year-old child.
As WPEC reports, Tayla's parents face the death penalty after it was determined their daughter starved to death and suffered from a number of infections, including E. coli, staph, and pneumonia.
Several news outlets shared the disturbing story on Facebook, where dozens of commenters demanded justice for the baby girl.
“It makes my gut wrench reading about the horrible things "parents" do to their poor babies. That poor baby girl I am just heartbroken for her. May she Rest In Peace,” Megan Marie Calhoun commented.
“Lock them in cages naked, starve them and razor cut slits all over of their bodies. When they are halfway to starving to death, submerge the cages in urine and feces until they die..,” Niki Lawrence Paris added.
“Lock em up, starve them until they die. Let them suffer the way they made their child suffer,” Sarah Beth Wilson wrote on Facebook.
At least one of Tayla's parents is reportedly facing first-degree murder charges at this time.
