A babysitter in Wisconsin is facing felony child abuse charges after she was caught hitting a child in her care multiple times.
According to a criminal complaint filed in Grant County on Wednesday, 58-year-old Peggy S. Timmerman has been accused of striking a 2-year-old while she was babysitting the boy in December, January, and February.
The criminal complaint states that the parents of the boy became suspicious of Timmerman’s behavior when their son came home with a bump on his head and bruises all over his body.
So, when the boy went back to Timmerman’s that Friday, the child’s older brother and mother hid an audio tape recorder inside of his jacket.
According to the criminal complaint, when the boy’s parents listened to the audio tape recorder later, they heard a woman screaming at the child.
Then they heard a loud slapping noise right before the little boy started crying uncontrollably.
According to the complaint, the recording made the mother and brother "sick" to listen to.
Although the little boy couldn’t tell his mother much about the injuries or how he got them, on multiple occasions he said, "Peggy hurt" and "Peggy ow."
The criminal complaint goes on to accuse Timmerman of going out of her way to bite a child just to show the poor kid how it feels.
On January 20, Timmerman reportedly told one parent that their child had bitten an 8-month-old baby at least 12 times, and that the biting had actually caused her to lose a valuable client.
When approached by another parent about a bump on their child’s head, Timmerman allegedly lied and blamed the incident on another child in her care.
According to Channel 3000, three of the counts against Timmerman stem from injuries to a 2-year-old boy on December 21, February 1 and last Friday.
One count is in connection with the injury of another 2-year-old child on January 19.
Several people on Facebook condemned Timmerman’s horrendous actions, while others pointed out how irresponsible it was of the child’s parents to send him back.
“Why would they even send their child back? I know it may be hard to find care, but that seems ridiculous and negligent on their part,” one person commented.
“Glad they got evidence, but geez - risking the child's life sending him back there,” another added.
According to court documents, a signature bond was set for Timmerman at $1,000 on Wednesday afternoon.
