Single Mom Goes Undercover As Dad So Son Can Attend 'Dads And Doughnuts' Event

When you're a single parent, you constantly have to go above and beyond to ensure that your children don't miss out on anything due to not having a second parent around. Many can contest, however, doing this is much harder than you'd imagine.

Whitney Kittrell is a Utah resident that became a single mom three years ago, she committed to do anything and everything possible to ensure that her kids would have a 'normal' life, which has been going as planned so far. "Trips alone, teaching my son how to play catch, killing bugs with minimal screaming, countless memories, and a normal life," she wrote in a post to Facebook.

One afternoon, after her son returned from his Arrowhead Elementary School kindergarten class for the day, he handed her a paper that made her heart sink. It was a flyer the school sent home with students for a 'dads and doughnuts' breakfast.

She eventually sat him down and asked him if he wanted to go with his grandfather, but, "He just smiled and said, "No. I want you to go. You're my mom and dad."

It was then that she came up with a plan.

"I gathered up my best dad outfit, painted on some facial hair, and went to breakfast with my sweet son. I was so embarrassed but I couldn't help but smile when he introduced me to his little friends saying "this is my mom... she's my dad too so I brought her!"

This isn't the first time a mom had to dress up as dad to ensure their kids weren't excluded from a school event. Kittrel mentioned that she wasn't sure if she was succeeding at letting her children know that they are loved.

When I went to leave he ran after me and hugged me tight around my neck and whispered "mom... I know that you'll always be there and do anything for me. Thank you. I love you" kissed my cheek and ran off. I hope he remembers this day cause I'll never forget it or his sweet words

I'm pretty sure they do. Her post has received over 9,500 likes and more than 4,500 shares. People's reactions were overwhelmingly positive, as they should be.

It isn't easy being a single parent, but here's one example of someone who has embraced the challenge and thrives.
