A toddler in the UK has been left fighting for his life after his mothers’ friend and neighbor shot him in the head for crying too much.
According to The Mirror, the jaw-dropping incident began last year, when Amy Allen, her 18-month-old son Harry Studley, and his brother Riley, 2, went to a neighbor’s house for the evening.
The trio had reportedly gone over to visit Allen’s friend, Emma Horseman, who apparently had never heard a baby cry before.
Authorities say that the visit was going perfectly fine until Harry began screaming and crying, unable to control his tears.
It is alleged that Horseman told her partner to “shoot Harry just to frighten him.”
“Shut him up, shoot it at Harry,” she is accused of adding.
According to The Mirror, Jordan Walters, who reportedly has children of his own, had allegedly been cleaning his gun at the time.
Walters reportedly believed the weapon was empty, so without hesitating, he “aimed the gun at Harry and fired it right into Harry’s head.”
Once the shocking shot was fired, it reportedly penetrated Harry’s skull. Only emergency surgery was able to save his life.
As of now, according to statements said in court, “it’s not possible to say if he will make a full recovery.”
While opening the case at Bristol Crown Court, prosecutor Andrew Macfarlane described the moments leading up to the deadly accident.
“The circumstances of this case are both simple and horrifying,” Macfarlane began. “Parents in a block of flats in Bristol meet up on one Friday afternoon with their children and within an hour a baby is fighting for his life on his way to hospital.”
“While the boys were upset Amy heard Emma say, ‘Oh Amy how do you cope with them crying all the time?’” he continued.
While Allen quickly brushed the comment off as Horseman’s annoyance with her son, she soon realized her friend’s disturbing intentions.
“She replied, ‘Easy you just give them attention. You’ve just go to do it,’” Macfarlane said. “In fact it was just seconds later while Harry was still crying that Amy heard Emma say, ‘Shoot Harry just to frighten him, shut him up, shoot it at Harry.”
“Then Amy heard the sound of a gun firing,” he continued. “It appeared to Amy that Jordan had aimed the gun at Harry and fired it right into Harry’s head, which is indeed what happened as you will hear.”
Allen and Horseman were reportedly neighbors and friends from college who were meeting up at Horseman’s house for a “lending club,” when the incident occurred on July 1, 2016.
Allen had decided to bring her two sons, Harry and Riley, to Horseman’s home, where she shared two children, ages 2 years and 2 months, with Walters.
For some unknown reason, Walters had decided to take his gun out to clean it, despite the fact that there were four children in the house at the time.
According to The Sun, Harry had started whining and crying when Allen began comforting Riley because “he wanted mummy too.”
It has since been alleged that Horseman told Walters to shoot Harry.
“Amy picked him up in her arms,” Macfarlane said. “Blood was gushing out of Harry’s head – down and down Amy’s arms. He was in and out of consciousness.”
According to reports, Harry was rushed to Bristol Royal Infirmary by air ambulance and underwent emergency surgery, and “fortunately his life was saved.”
Following the shocking incident, Harry’s parents issued a statement through Avon and Somerset Police.
“We very much appreciate the help and support of our family, friends and local community at this very difficult time,” they said at the time. “We are concentrating our focus on our son's recovery and would appreciate if we could have our privacy respected in order to allow us to do so.”
After the horrific accident occurred, police reportedly said that the little boy's family was continuing to be given "all the help and support” that they needed for their heartbroken family.
As The Sun reports, Walters pleaded guilty to GBH last year, while Horseman has denied the same charge by aiding and abetting him.
Horseman’s trial has started this week and is expected to last about two days.
