A 9-year-old boy in Michigan was found hiding near a neighbor's basement nearly 48 hours after he was reported missing. Keep reading for more details!
A missing Michigan boy has been found alive after neighbors found him hiding inside a small space underneath their basement stairs.
According to mlive, when Michelle Bianchi, the Hillsdale County probate judge, finally found 9-year-old Jace Landon Lyon on Friday, he was terrified and starving.
"We talked to him, hugged him, put on a TV program he liked," her husband, Chuck Bianchi, said Sunday.
Jace was first reported missing on Wednesday after his mother came home to find that he was not there.
According to the Hillsdale County Sheriff's Office, authorities and hundreds of volunteers worked tirelessly to find Jace, but it was Michelle Bianchi who finally ended the hours-long search for the little boy.
Chuck Bianchi later told authorities that the thought he saw somebody run past the side entrance facing the garage Thursday morning, but he didn’t know a boy was missing at that point so he didn’t think much of it.
Jace, who did not know the Bianchis personally, was ultimately found crouched down next to an air conditioning unit along the side of the house.
Although FBI agents eventually searched the property, they did not see Jace hiding near the basement.
After the agents left, Michelle reportedly heard a strange noise and decided to call Jace’s name, just to see if he would answer. And he did.
"He was one scared little boy," said Chuck. "Obviously, he has my heart."
Although the Bianchis live less than a mile away from Jace’s family, they have never actually met his mother.
Investigators are now working to find out why Jace left home in the first place.
