One weekend a young woman named Kristina dropped her boyfriend of five years off at the airport where he would allegedly fly to meet friends for a weekend away. A few months later, she learned that he’d been doing something very, very different.
Some time had passed and the two of them went out to a vineyard with a group to celebrate someone’s birthday. Then Matthew asked her to watch a video he’d made and the course of the day — and their lives — changed dramatically.
The video revealed where he’d really gone that weekend: he’d flown to see Kristina’s family.
Then he’d asked each family member, one by one, if they would accept him into the family because he wanted to marry her.
And he’d captured all the conversations — including her grandmother giving Matthew her diamond engagement ring to give Kristina — on camera.
There was one conversation that stood out from the rest. Matthew had even gone to see Kristina’s late father, who was buried in Highland Mills, New York. Kristina had always felt that her boyfriend was very similar to her dad, whom she’d adored. You can tell how proud that made Matthew.
Watching him visit her father’s grave, she just looks so moved and overwhelmed. Just try watching it without tearing up.
After showing her the video he asked her to come outside with him. The moment of truth had arrived: dropping to one knee he proposed to her. She was clearly thrilled. (She said yes!)
