5-Year-Old Given Invoice And Parents Threatened With Court For Missing Kid's BIRTHDAY PARTY
By Dreamer

A 5-year-old boy paid the price after he decided to spend the afternoon with his grandparents rather than attending his friend’s birthday party.
Several days after the missed celebration, the boy’s father, Derek Nash, received an invoice from the birthday boy’s mother, Julie Lawrence, charging him $26.14 as a “no show fee” and threatened him with small claims court if he didn’t pay up, BBC News reported.
Lawrence alleged that Alex’s non-attendance left her out-of-pocket for the cost incurred in planning on him being at the Ski Slope and Snowboard Center bash. But Nash contends it’s Lawrence’s fault she was unaware that he wouldn’t be there since she failed to provide party-goers with contact information.

According to the Metro, Nash had run into Lawrence in the days prior to the party while out and about in their hometown area of Cornwall, England, when she informed the father of the party and asked if Alex planned to attend. At that time, Nash confirmed his son would be there, but he later realized he had made prior arrangements for Alex and his sister, Lily, to spend the day with their grandparents.
“By this time we did not have a contact number, email or an address to let [the boy’s mother] know,” Nash explained. So, when the day came for the birthday celebration, Derek gave Alex the choice of spending the day with his school friend or his grandparents, and the boy chose the latter.
Then on January 6th, when Alex returned to school, his mother had planned to apologize to Lawerence for her son not coming to the party, but she missed the opportunity to do so after being unable to find her after school. On January 15, Alex returned home from class with a brown envelope in his bag containing the ridiculous bill for not coming to the birthday party. According to the report, the mother gave a teacher the envelope, and it was subsequently passed on to Alex.

Outraged by the absurd charge for something that is just a fact of life when planning a party, Nash tracked Lawrence down at her home to confront her on the issue — invoice in hand — telling the mother that he would not pay the fine, and if she was this upset about the attendance issue, she should have contacted him about it in a normal way.
Ultimately Alex is paying the price since he told his parents that his scorned classmate will no longer play with him. It sounds like the birthday boy’s mother has done a great job of teaching her son how to hold grudges and manipulate others, when things don’t go your way.
Do you think the mother is in the right to be upset about incurring extra charges when the child failed to attend? Let us know in the comments.
