When parents in New Jersey took their children in for an innocent Santa visit, their kids were faced with an unusual holiday experience that left parents stunned by what Santa kept hidden in plain sight – and now, it’s going viral.
During the year, Kerry Magro is a renowned public speaker and author. However, during the Christmas season, he travels around New Jersey dressed up as Santa Claus, and what he does for children during the innocent encounters has parents talking. He’s not an ordinary Santa. Instead, he offers a catered experience for autistic and special needs children because he too has autism.

“Autism doesn’t stop in December,” Magro explained, according to Inside Edition. “It doesn’t stop at Christmas.”
Magro offers a special experience for children with special needs, solely because he understands those needs himself. He came up with the idea when he realized that there were many children who wanted to be able to visit Santa Claus, but never could because of their individual circumstances. Magro caters to each child’s individual needs and will do whatever is necessary for them to experience the joy of visiting Santa.
“We dim the lights, we turn down the sound and try to help them as much as we can,” Magro said. “This event is more inclusive.” He continued, “Every time I interact with them, I try to meet them where they are. Whether it’s me sitting on the ground playing toys with them or keeping my distance if they don’t want to be touched.”

One of the two-hundred children who were able to visit Magro this year, Sarah Callighy, has been diagnosed with non-verbal autism. “Santa also has autism [so] it’s a special connection, a special bond,” her father, Brian Callighy, told CBS.
It’s remarkable that Magro has been able to provide the Santa experience to children who are unique in their own special way. Although some people may not realize it, these small changes are what can brighten a child’s day and will be something they remember for the rest of their lives. This just proves that God has a plan for everyone and there’s no doubt in my mind that Magro is a blessing to all of these children and their families.
