Mom Finds 30-Year-Old Christmas Gift She Forgot, When It’s Opened … JACKPOT
By Dreamer

With the Christmas season having just passed, it seems that one guy got a bit more than he expected. As it turns out, his mother recently found a present stashed in the back of a drawer that she had forgotten to give him about 30 years ago and decided to finally pass it on to him. When he opened it – well, let’s just say he hit the jackpot.
A picture of the gift, along with a short description, was posted to Reddit and Imgur by user OMGparty. There, he describes that his mother bought him a gift back in the 80’s and decided to stash it in the back of a drawer in order to keep it away from prying eyes.

Unfortunately for her and her child, she forgot about the gift, which sat in that drawer for the past 30 years. Fast forward to today – a full 33 years later – and the mother stumbled across the forgotten present and decided to wrap it up for this holiday season.
So, what exactly was it? An action figure from the 80’s, still in it’s packaging, depicting Luke Skywalker from the Star Wars series wearing an X-wing pilot suit.

As one would imagine, OMGparty was pretty shocked. In his own words:
My mom bought this back in the 80’s and forgot about it in the back of a drawer. Today she gave it to me as a Christmas gift! I’m amazed! Going to be holding on to this forever!
However, the amazement of this story goes even further when the recipient of the gift found out how much the hidden gem was actually worth. In an email exchange with Daily Dot, he explained, “In terms of value, someone on my Facebook feed said $500, but I think that’s most likely WAY WAY over inflated.”
Quick research discovered that those estimates weren’t too far off. While some are selling right in the ballpark of $500, others want upwards of $2,000 and even $6,000 for theirs. Furthermore, Daily Dot reports:
The X-Wing fighter pilot Luke is one of a series of Star Wars action figures produced by the Kenner toy company between 1978–1985. Fans refer to this as “the vintage line.” The X-Wing version of Luke originally debuted with Kenner’s X-Wing model before getting his own box and costume in 1979. As action figures go, this one is pretty iconic.
Some of those being sold in the thousands-of-dollar range are in extremely great shape and, as OMGparty explains, his action figure has “some weathering that would keep it from being considered ‘New in the box’ to collectors.”
Regardless, it’s looking like he could get anywhere between $200-$500 for the thing – but that’s only if he were to sell it. For now, it seems that he’ll be keeping it. Either way, that’s not too shabby for a mom who simply forgot a present in her drawer for three decades.
Besides, I don’t think that anyone could argue that a huge return on investment is a bad thing. I mean, when you spend a whole $2.50 on something and it turns out to be worth $500 one day down the road, there isn’t a single person going to say that’s a bad thing. Besides that, for it to happen on accident – and all events circling around Christmas – well, I’d say that’s nothing short of a miracle.
