The term “rainbow babies” refers to children who were born after a miscarriage, stillbirth, neonatal death or infant loss. These children are a reminder to the family of the beauty of life, and the hope that has yet to come.
Pregnancy and parenting blogger, Chasity Boatman created a forum surrounding this topic that instantly went viral in 2015.

On the blog’s Facebook page, Every Child Is A Blessing: My Journey From Pregnancy Through Parenthood, Boatman shared a photo that she felt expressed the true beauty behind rainbow babies. The photos, shown below, show several mothers and their children before and after birth.

He facebook post with the images read:
Who loves this "rainbow babies" photo? A “rainbow baby” is a baby that is born following a miscarriage, stillbirth, neonatal death or infant loss. In the real world, a beautiful and bright rainbow follows a storm and gives hope of things getting better. The rainbow is more appreciated having just experienced the storm in comparison.

A pregnancy after a miscarriage can be difficult to endure. Once a woman has lost a child, that worry is constantly there and can make it hard to fully embrace any subsequent pregnancies. That’s why this viral image of six moms either pregnant with or holding their rainbow babies is beyond inspiring.
Photographer Alex Bolen of Shutter Darling Photography gathered six clients who had either given birth or were currently pregnant with a baby conceived after a loss. The result is a positively stunning image showcasing these brave moms and their beautiful bumps and babies.

The photo quickly went viral and now has over 11,000 shares. In her Facebook caption, Bolen writes, “A rainbow is a promise, of sunshine after rain, of calm after storms, of joy after sadness, of peace after pain, of love after loss.” She says, “A rainbow baby is a baby born following loss. These mommas are just six out of the millions that experience pregnancy/infant loss every day. Some speak out. Some stay silent. Some have lost many. Some try for months or years. Some meet their sleeping angels. All loved and never forgotten.”
Another mother who after enduring six miscarriages, celebrated her rainbow baby with a breathtaking maternity photo.
In August, Kevin Mahoney asked photographer JoAnn Marrero to take pictures of his wife, Jessica, who was pregnant with the couple’s second child. The Connecticut parents struggled with fertility issues after having their first child, a son named Corbin.
When Jessica and Kevin tried to have another baby, the mom suffered six miscarriages. After so much loss, this rainbow baby represents a glimmer of hope for the family.

JoAnn and Mary shared the photo on their Fb pages, From Labor to Love and Pebbles and Polka Dots Photography.
Hopefully, these image spreading means plenty of women who have lost a baby will see it and feel a renewed sense of hope that their rainbow will come soon. Below is a heartwarming video of one woman's motherhood journey after losing a child and having her rainbow baby.
