An assistant manager at a Fort Worth, Texas American Eagle Outfitter retailer was bound, beaten, and then burned to death by two former store employees so they could steal her shop keys and cash in on thousands of dollars of Black Friday funds.

Ashlea Harris, 31, was last seen at her apartment by a friend when she arrived home at approximately 3 a.m following a grueling Black Friday shift on November 28, according to a police arrest affidavit.

Several hours after the friend’s final sighting of her, Harris was found dead on her bed in her home by firefighters who responded to a call. Her body had been partially burned and beaten, and her hands and feet were bound by duct tape. Police knew they had a murder investigation on their hands from the start and arrested 19-year-old Clarence David Mallory on December 5. The following day, they took 25-year old Carter Carol Cervantez into custody as well. Both were charged with capital murder of Harris, according to Fox4 DFW.
Both suspects had been fired from the store over the past summer after being suspected of stealing almost $18,000 from the retailer’s safe on August 24. Mallory and Cervantez were caught on surveillance cameras one day after killing Harris, trying to get into the locked store through the front door using keys. However, that attempt failed since the locks had already been changed. Police believe their intent was to steal nearly $50,000 in Black Friday profits from the store.

Both suspects were questioned about their involvement in Harris’ murder after being booked into separate jails. Each denied responsibility but will have to prove their case in court. Meanwhile, they are both being held on a $500,000 bond each.
