Two police officers searching for a crib in Georgia believe only divine intervention could have brought them to the yard sale that would end up changing a struggling mother’s life.
According to WSB-TV, the officers had responded to a call earlier in the day from a frantic mother whose baby was found unresponsive.
Although the infant was quickly rescued, the police officers couldn’t help but notice that the baby didn’t have a crib to sleep in.
So, the officers decided to go out and buy the struggling mom a new crib out of the kindness of their hearts.
That’s when they noticed Samantha and Don Swaney’s yard sale.
“My first thought was that I needed to find my permit,” Samantha later wrote on Facebook.
Although the officers didn’t see a crib displayed outside at the yard sale, they knew it wouldn’t hurt to ask the couple if they had one anyway.
As it turns out, the Swaneys had exactly what the officers were looking for.
“It might have seemed random to him, but I fully believe he was being led by The Lord,” Samantha wrote on Facebook. “What he couldn’t have known is that we had a brand new, never been used crib in our attic— several years ago we lost our baby during labor, and I haven’t been able to part with the crib.”
The moment the police officers asked about the crib, Samantha and Don knew their visit was fate.
“God knew there was a baby who needed a crib,” Samantha said.
“Those two gentlemen did so much more than they knew on Saturday, April 10. They rushed to the aid of someone in our community, saved the life of a little baby, and helped her parents. And they gave me a way to let go of one of the biggest things I was holding onto from my son’s cut-short life,” she told family and friends on Facebook.
While the officers remain adamant that they were just trying to do their job, they also believe there was a reason they were sent to the Swaneys house that day.
“Perfect time is the right thing to say because with my belief, everything happens for a reason,” one of the officers told WSB-TV.
