[Photos] Man Finds Quarter In His Possession That’s Worth $35,000. You Might Have One Too

We seldom look too closely at coins and cash when we are in the midst of exchanging money, but maybe it’s time we started keeping tabs on our financial pieces. Taking the time to look closely, may lead us to gaining a small fortune.
One seller on Ebay is attracting a lot of attention with his recent posting of a “proofed coin.” The coin, which has been listed for the price of $35,000.00, is being watched by 1,400 people and twenty inquiries have been made regarding its status.

“The reason it is so valuable is because this particular coin is a very rare “proof error,” said Mike Byers who is the seller and self-identified as a leading authority on proof errors. Byers went on to include some details on what exactly a proof-error coin is: “Proof coins are struck by technicians who had feed the blanks into special presses,” Byers wrote in his eBay ad. “They are produced, examined and packaged using extreme quality control. It is very unusual to find major proof errors.”
Apparently the reason for this particular coin’s error was that it was over struck on a 1941 coin from Canada. After undergoing the minting process, the coin resulted in being stamped with a unique marking. The “1941” is difficult to see above the word “dollar” which is normally stamped clearly on the back of the coin. Professional coin collectors and gurus admit that this is not your average coin and it’s unlikely to find something so unique in your piggy bank.
Coining is also known as minting, or coinage and involves the process of manufacturing coins by using a stamping system, which is also generically known as metalworking.
There are two types of coin collectors and both seem to be following the coin’s popularity online. The two categories are: those collectors who gather rare coins that are in great condition. And then, at the other end, there are the error collectors, who focus on those coins with physical mistakes or damages. In any event, there seems to be collectors of everything and all kinds. Everyone has their tastes and likes and we all have a lot of knowledge on specific things, varying based on what we enjoy.

While the coin in question is causing quite a stir, commenters are questioning why an American coin would be printed in conjunction with a Canadian coin. One commenter said:
“Why is the US mint printing coins over CANADIAN money? This makes no sense at all.”
While other commenters have started to question their own coins at home. “I have a 1980 quarter that might look like this I don’t know,” said another commenter.

This eBay post may get viewers to check their pockets and look at the details of their coins. Until then, we will see if one lucky coin collector gathers the cash to make the big purchase from Byers. We can only assume that the value will only go up. In the meantime, the coins popularity will spread across the internet, growing every day.
