Two best friends made a pact before one of them went off to serve in the war in Afghanistan — If the soldier was killed in action, his best friends would have to wear the most heinous dress possible to his funeral.
Kevin Elliot left for duty shortly after his best friend Barry Delaney obliged to the odd, but undeniably hilarious, request within the dark reality of war. While fighting for the U.K in Afghanistan, the life-long friends remained in contact through continuous communication.
Three years into war, Private Elliot’s ugly dress demand unfortunately had to be fulfilled by Delaney.
When it became time for Elliot’s funeral, Delaney went all out to honor his fallen best friend. He poured himself his buddy’s favorite drink, toasted his fallen hero friend, and put on the most ridiculous-looking dress he could get his hands on — complete with tall hot pink socks.
While at first sight Delaney’s dress may have seemed in poor taste for the somber occasion, the story behind it could not have been more perfect for the day. Everyone in attendance was aware of the promise he had made to Elliot and was appropriately touched by this extreme display of friendship.
