Mom Finally Realizes Why Little Son Tried To Choke Himself After Discovering What Teacher Did To Him

A Michigan mother says a teacher locked her special needs son in a padded room for hours without letting him use the bathroom.
Bridget, from Lake Orion, Michigan, has an 8-year-old son with autism who attends Paint Creek Elementary School. One day, she received a phone call from her son Nathan’s teacher informing her that the child was acting up.
The teacher decided that putting Nathan in a padded 8-by-8 room, called “the cooler”, was a fitting punishment, reports Fox 2 Detroit.

“The purpose of the padded room is for students with special needs when they are feeling overstimulated if they need to calm down,” she said.
But Bridget says Nathan was confined to “the cooler” for almost three and a half hours.
“They called me to come pick him up because he defecated and urinated in there,” says Bridget. “And they suspended him.”

Nathan’s mom says he was put in the padded room twice – and not for emergency purposes.
"If that's why they were using this padded room - because it was an absolute emergency, I should've been contacted immediately," Bridget said. "Not three and a half hours after it happened."
Bridget says that criminals in prison are treated better than how the school treated her son.
"He tried choking himself towards the end," Bridget said. "They decided it was for attention."
Officials at Lake Orion Community Schools are investigating the incident but say that Bridget’s claims are unsubstantiated.
"We have been in contact with the parents of this child over the past month to address his needs and are continuing to work with them very closely to provide the best learning opportunities for him,” say officials.
The school’s official website makes no mention of the news and says their mission is to ensure “the continuous advancement of student performance to meet the challenges of our changing world.”
However, Bridget says she has text messages from Nathan’s teacher that validate her story. She is concerned about other special needs children who aren’t able to speak for themselves.
"How do their parents know how long they were in there," she said. "How do the parents going to know how they felt?"
Meanwhile, the mother has taken Nathan out of the school and is seeking legal action.
"I don't want this to happen again to him," she said. "And I don't want this to happen to anybody else."
