Internet Erupts About What ‘Strange’ Girl In Blue Is Doing In Target Ad
By Dreamer

If you didn’t throw away the Target ad that appeared in your mailbox recently, you may have thumbed right by a little girl dressed in blue pictured on one of the pages. But it’s that little girl, particularly what she’s wearing, that has received a ton of attention after one woman aired her opinion about it online.
The sweet little girl appeared in a Halloween costume ad for the retailer, posed among a group of other children dressed in festive trick-or-treating attire. While the character she was impersonating is one of the most popular — Elsa from Disney’sFrozen — all the attention is on what isn’t sold in the dress up set.

Target is definitely deserved of all the praise they are receiving now in recent days, after a mother posted her heartfelt gratitude on Facebook for the retailer for featuring a child with disabilities in their advertisements. The beautiful little girl in blue wasn’t asked to remove her arm and leg braces for the shot, instead, she was placed front and center. This is something to which Jen Kroll can relate, whose daughter uses arm crutches and has prosthetic legs.

She may be dressed as a Disney princess, but it’s not her costume that made her feel like royalty — it was the retailer giving her a glowing place in the spotlight. Models often present unattainable images to sell a product, making girls and women feel like they must look like them in order to be accepted in society. It’s time to start showing that what’s real is beautiful and other people’s disabilities don’t make them unworthy of being glamorous or given the same opportunities able-bodied people have.
It’s refreshing to see a retailer break the mold with their models, picking people who truly represent their customers and who others can relate to. This is the type of equality the company should continue to focus on.
