The crowd was stunned when the quarterback homecoming king turned to his classmate, removed his crown, and placed it on the head of the shocked runner-up. Now, photos of the football star handing over his title are going viral.
The audience at last weekend’s Keller Fossil Ridge football game wasn’t surprised when Max Akin, a well-liked student and stellar quarterback, was voted homecoming king. However, jaws dropped as Max excitedly called over the other nominee and placed the crown on his head instead.

WFAA reports that after accumulating 200 passing yards, 60 rushing yards, and 4 touchdowns in the first half, Max stunned the crowd even further when he handed over his homecoming title to K.L. Norwood, the team’s manager who happens to have cerebral palsy.

After Max was crowned homecoming king, he turned to K.L., who has cerebral palsy, and offered him the crown.
“I didn’t know when I would have the right time to do it,” Max said. “But I saw K.L., came over and gave him a hug, and I knew that he wanted that crown more than anything. I thought it was the best hearing them chant K.L.’s name right after halftime, and I know he liked that, too. Everybody was going wild for him. Everybody loves K.L. at this school.”
Max handed over his crown because K.L. is his friend and he wanted to honor his irreplaceable contributions to the team.
“I think it should’ve gone to the person who positively uplifts the school and everybody around him,” Max said, “and that person is K.L., for sure.”

Max made it clear that he handed his title over to K.L. because he loves his friend and wanted to honor his hard work for the team.
Of course, K.L. was just as grateful and enthusiastic as expected. Having prior knowledge of Max’s plan, the bubbly team manager smiled from ear to ear after his companion humbly handed over the crown.
“It was absolutely terrific,” K.L. said. “I appreciate it.”
Fossil Ridge Head Coach Tony Baccarini admitted that the gesture had no motivation other than their mutual respect and admiration for one another.
“Max — that’s just what he is, and that’s what our team is, too,” said Tony Baccarini. “They love each other, and that’s why we’re successful.”

Max and K.L. hugged as the quarterback stepped away and allowed the team manager to take his place as homecoming king.
